About

Bribie Dragons Breast Cancer Survivors Inc. was  founded in May 2008. This club is  known as Bribie Pink Dragons and/or Pinkaboutit.

We are first and foremost a breast cancer survivor club. However, we welcome supporters, friends, and family of survivors as well as anyone else who supports breast cancer awareness and values. We are not a competitive or sporting group but enjoy competing and love the sport of dragon boating.

We consider ourselves winners already, having survived and beaten breast cancer.

We currently own three boats, two twenty seaters named Kal-Ma-Kuta and Moora Moora and a ten seater, Little Spirit.

Women who have had breast cancer can often feel isolated and in need of support from other women who have experienced the emotional and physical effects of cancer. Paddling provides an opportunity, through the sport of dragon boating, for rehabilitation after surgery, fitness, emotional support and best of all, wonderful camaraderie.Dragon boating is based on participation and inclusiveness in a supportive environment where those travelling the breast cancer journey gradually develop their fitness levels through taking part in this ancient Chinese sport.

The club is highly effective in promoting the message of breast cancer awareness and education through the fun of dragon boat racing.

The formation of dragon boating on Bribie Island was the passion and inspiration of our current life member, Dawn Worley, along with Bronwyn Pawley and Cathie Gouldsbrough. Together with very dedicated, hard working local breast cancer survivors they engaged wonderful sponsorship and assistance from our local community groups.  Zonta Club of Caboolture donated our first boat and Bribie Island Rotary provided our first uniforms and paddles. They both continue to offer ongoing support along with other interested local clubs, including Busy Fingers and the Wallum Action Group.

Although we enjoy competing in regattas, both local and international, our focus is not on winning but having fun.  We enjoy the opportunity to increase our fitness levels and improve our technique as well as the promotion of breast cancer awareness.

We are “living the dream”. Where else do you have the opportunity to promote rehabilitation, build resilience, in the company of dolphins, turtles, dugong, pelicans and other bird life paddling with such wonderful company?
